Total Reading Concrete & Masonry was started in 2015 by a crew that grew up in Reading and spent years working on the city's older homes - the brick row houses, stone foundations, and century-old chimneys that define Berks County neighborhoods. The work kept pointing to the same problem: homeowners were calling contractors who had no experience with old masonry and getting repairs that looked right for a season or two and then failed.
Reading has some of the oldest housing stock in Pennsylvania. A large share of homes in the city were built before 1940, using materials and methods that are genuinely different from modern construction - softer brick, lime-based mortar, stone rubble foundations. Working on those homes correctly means understanding what they were built with, not just what is easiest to buy at a supply house today.
Since 2015, we have worked on foundations, chimneys, retaining walls, driveways, and everything in between across Reading and the surrounding communities. We are still here because we do the work right, we give straight estimates, and we stand behind what we build.
Before we mix anything, we assess the age and condition of your masonry. Using the wrong mortar on an older home causes more damage than it prevents. We match repair materials to what your home was built with.
You will know the schedule before work starts - which day we arrive, how long we will be there, and what each day covers. We do not disappear mid-job and we clean up at the end of each workday.
Your written estimate explains what we found, what we recommend, and what it costs - line by line. We do not add charges after the fact, and we do not pressure you to decide on the spot.
We understand the conditions that come with Berks County's older homes - the freeze-thaw damage, the hillside drainage problems, the lime mortar that cannot handle modern replacements. This is the kind of work we do every week.
We are registered with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, as required for any contractor performing residential work in the state. We can provide our registration number on request.
We carry general liability insurance and workers compensation coverage on every project. Before any work begins, we can provide a certificate of insurance naming you as an additional insured if your property requires it.
We have been working in Reading and Berks County since 2015 - long enough to know the neighborhoods, the housing types, and the seasonal conditions that drive masonry work in this area. We are not a franchise or a national chain.
We serve Reading and 12 communities throughout Berks County and surrounding areas.
